World Social Work Day 2024

The 19th of March, is a special day when the world celebrates the great profession of social work.
The Social Affairs Department has recognized the efforts and dedication of social workers on this Tuesday, marking World Social Work Day.

3 awardees for the year 2024 were recognised, each receiving a certificate, a gift voucher and a shield from Minister Patricia Francourt and Principal Secretary of Social Affairs, Linda William-Melanie.
They are Julia Alphonse, 10 years in service as well as Veronica Jeanne and Winnie Racombo with each 25 years in service.

There was a special mention of other members of staff who have been with Social Affairs Department for between 30 and 40 years.
Chantal Cadeau – 33 years, Clothilde Malcouzanne and Myriam Desir – 37 years, Una Chang Time and Brenda Dick – 40 years.

The Director for Social Services, Ms Beryl Laboudallon, who is celebrating her birthday today, was presented with a flower arrangement.

Minister Patricia Francourt applauded the social workers for the tremendous work they do through their humane act when they place themselves in risky situations to rescue or empower others.
During the award ceremony held at the Seychelles Coast Guard auditorium on Ile Perseverance, a representative of the Seychelles Pension Fund made a very interactive and lively presentation about pension benefits and payments.

The group of social workers were treated to a whole day of fun and empowerment which included a talk entitled “Discovering Yourself as a Social Worker”, cake cutting and a sumptuous lunch.
