Potentials and challenges social work is facing in the 21st century were discussed at length during a one-day symposium organised by the Social Affairs Department, attended by a wide-ranging group of participants.
The Minister of Employment and Social Affairs, Mrs Patricia Francourt, had the honour of launching the symposium, while a Social Work Manager from the UK, Mrs Thokozile Baleni, delivered the keynote address.
Attendees later split into 4 groups for in-depth analyses of topics including the current national training plan for social workers, investigating elderly care, a lawmaker’s view of social work and addiction in Seychelles.
The symposium, organised as part of activities marking World Social Work Day, concluded with a plenary interactive session about recruitment and career progression of social workers.
