New staff meets with the Minister as part of induction programme

Minister Patricia Francourt met with a group of nine newly recruited Social Workers as part of the Social Affairs Department’s induction programme, to familiarise herself with the staff.

The Social Workers have a combination of 5 to 13 months since joining the service. They shared their experiences of how they are adapting and being faced with the reality of translating theory into practice, something which they find to be challenging, given the complexities of the issues and the cases. They expressed gratitude to their peers and supervisors whom they see as mentors during this exciting journey of fulfilling their duties as a Social Worker.

Minister Francourt appreciated their honesty and encouraged them to use their expertise through knowledge gained from their 3-year studies and not to allow themselves to be distracted by negativity.

She ended the meeting with these words “every day you make a difference in the life of someone. You may be tempted to quit when things get difficult but you are not a quitter. Persevere and keep going as you are angels in the life of those people.”

The Social Workers appreciated the meeting with Minister Francourt.
